Every evening, the Niagara Falls are lit up in special colors for registered charities marking a significant date in support of their cause. This year - for the first time - Niagara Falls will light up turquoise on October 1st from 10:00 pm to 10:15 pm ET to kick-off Dysautonomia Awareness Month and serve as a beacon of hope for millions of people impacted by autonomic nervous system disorders around the world.

"We are thrilled to have the iconic Niagara Falls 'Make Some Noise for Turquoise!' in recognition of Dysautonomia Awareness Month, to help us raise the public profile of autonomic nervous system disorders." explains Clover Yordanova, Dysautonomia International Board Member.

Dysautonomia International will also host an informal gathering of dysautonomia patients, family and friends on the New York side of the Falls that evening from 8pm-10:15pm. Please RSVP to info@dysautonomiainternational.org if you are interested in attending or if you would like more information.

This special lighting is one of many local and national events occurring during Dysautonomia Awareness Month. Since its founding in 2012, Dysautonomia International has designated the month of October as Dysautonomia Awareness Month. While the organization works year round on its mission-focused initiatives, it rallies community members - patients, caregivers, health professionals, and the media - to help take awareness to the next level during Dysautonomia Awareness Month.

A special thanks to The Niagara Falls Illumination Board for this opportunity!

About Dysautonomia
Dysautonomia is an umbrella term used to describe various medical conditions that cause a malfunction of the Autonomic Nervous System. The Autonomic Nervous System controls the "automatic" functions of the body that we do not consciously think about, such as heart rate, blood pressure, digestion, dilation and constriction of the pupils of the eye, kidney function, and temperature control. People living with various forms of dysautonomia - also known as autonomic nervous system disorders - have trouble regulating these systems, which can result in light-headedness, fainting, unstable blood pressure, abnormal heart rates, malnutrition, and in severe cases, death.

Over 70 million people worldwide live with various forms of dysautonomia. People of any age, gender or race can be impacted. There is no cure for any form of dysautonomia at this time, but Dysautonomia International is funding research to develop better treatments, and hopefully someday a cure for each form of dysautonomia. Despite the high prevalence of dysautonomia, most patients take years to get diagnosed due to a lack of awareness among the public and within the medical community.
